Barbados is known throughout the world as an ideal holiday and residential destination, justifiably famed for its healthy climate, political stability, excellent internal and external communications, absence of ‘red tape’ and relative freedom from crime. Finally, for lovers of the Caribbean calypso culture, there is the annual Crop-Over Festival in July and August, a grand carnival of gorgeous costumes and pulsating music and dancing, which culminates in a joyous ‘jump-up’ through the streets of Bridgetown. In short, Barbados can be described as offering a combination of the best of ‘Little England’ charm (see the ‘little’ Nelson’s Column in Bridgetown) and the vibrancy of a modern Caribbean society and economy.
